Subject:
The international recognition of the metrology and calibration capabilities of the UAE presents a model for global collaboration and achieving sustainable development. The country's quantum leap in the field came as a result of obtaining this recognition for national metrology and calibration capabilities - a total of 17 published in the International Bureau of Weights and Measures database in 2023.
Coordination and integration among federal and local government entities, as well as collaboration with private sector partners, culminated in the Cabinet's adoption of the Technical Regulation for Monitoring Air Quality Measurements in 2023. The regulation directly contributes to improving the efficiency and accuracy of measurements of air quality elements such as ozone, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, sulfur dioxide and other environmental pollutants.
On the national level, tests to enhance the performance of environmental metrology laboratories and monitoring stations in the UAE are being developed. Such programs are launched in collaboration with accreditation bodies and local environmental departments, to drive sustainability.
Objective
The aim of this advisory is to reflect the Ministry of Advanced Industry and Technology's (MoIAT) commitment to enhancing awareness among industrial sector stakeholders of advanced national measurement capabilities and their importance in serving local industries. Additionally, it seeks to raise awareness about efforts towards the implementation of technical regulations for air quality measurements. Such regulations directly contribute to improving the efficiency and accuracy of measurements of air quality elements including ozone, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, sulfur dioxide and other environmental pollutants.
Results
To successfully convey the importance of calibrating tools in line with international standards to environmental metrology and air quality laboratories. Correct measurements play a crucial role in decision-making that supports national sustainability efforts, in collaboration with public and private sector partners.
